Today, I'm guest posting over on Richard Bryne's "Free Technology for Teachers" with a post entitled, "How to Ace Your Interview for a Teaching Position." Click through to read the entire article.
Thanks for writing this blog post. I found it reassuring that I would have all four of your requirements if I were interviewing with you. I only wish the school district I am trying to get an interview with will notice and appreciate my online presence and knowledge of technology integration.
Good luck with your interviews Deb - advice on that is to offer if the don't ask. The last question of most interviews is something like, "Do you have any questions or anything else you'd like to tell us." Grab the opportunity but be prepared to have your own internet access (tablet, mifi, or the like). School administrators have been slow to adopt SM as a viable tool so you may have to do a little bit of educating yourself.
I just laughed so much at your description of email addresses you have found in your career! Good luck with hiring new teachers. My question to you would be: Would you hire/Have you hired for English classes non native speakers of English? And the same question for Spanish or any other language? And of course, why? Thanks!! Fabiana
I don't think the question of native or non-native speaker has ever come up in my interviews and I believe it is a non-issue. If someone is certified, highly qualified, motivated, can connect with students and parents, and is able to facilitate learning then I can't see any reason to even think about their native tongue.
